  Acne & scarring

Acne is one of the most common skin diseases, characterized by – in order of severity - congested pores, tender red bumps, pustules or even nodules and cysts.

It affects up to 85% of teenagers and young adults – even 25% of men and 50% of women at some time in their adult lives. Dermatologists find themselves seeing more adult acne patients in recent years.

How does acne occur? Sebaceous glands exist inside our pores and produce sebum, or oil, to lubricate our skin and hair. Hormonal changes can stimulate these glands to increase oil production. Together with dead skin cells, the pores become clogged and enlarged, resulting in

a bump. Inflammation occurs when irritating substances and bacteria further aggravate it.Contributing factors to acne include unhealthy lifestyle, stress, lack of a proper skincare regimen, exposure to chemicals, cosmetics, physical pressure on the face (like helmet chin straps, collars, eyewear) and certain drugs.

While it is not a life-threatening condition, acne causes both physical and psychological scarring, and can make an impact on emotional well-being.

  Let us help.
Acne can be treated with topical creams or gels from our KO Skincare lines, oral antibiotics and laser treatments. Scars and open pores can also be successfully reduced. At KO Skin Specialist Centre, we offer total acne-fighting and purifying skin programmes tailored to your needs to help you eradicate acne & scars. The technologies we use include LineXel Fractional CO2, Dual Yellow Light, and Intracel.

Dual Yellow Light is the latest and first innovation of its kind available in Malaysia that KO centres carry; that generates wavelengths of green and yellow light to specifically target active acne without damaging surrounding tissue. How effective are laser or Dual Yellow Light treatments for acne?

While acne laser treatment is still an evolving and emerging new option, it is proving to be more effective when combined with creams and topical applications. This is especially true of Dual Yellow Light, which has proven outstanding result. Laser treatments also have fewer potential side effects than antibiotic therapy.

Who can be treated?

Almost all skin types can be successfully treated.

How do they work?

In general, computer-controlled laser beams apply a series of light rays or light and heat on the acne-affected skin to remove the glands or bacteria that are responsible for it. In the case of Dual Yellow Light, the dual wavelengths penetrate the skin deeply to treat acne at its source. For acne scars, the lasers work to resurface the skin and reduce their appearance.
