  Rhinoplasty

The nose has significant implications for attractiveness, as it is the centrepiece of the face. Many Asians tend to have a flat bridge, a bulbous tip and wide nostrils. Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping (a "nose job"), is a surgery technique to correct and reconstruct the nose - either to enhance its proportion and restore facial harmony, or to correct constricted breathing.

  Let us help.
Many Asians desire a high and thin nose, with a sharply-projecting tip and petite nostrils. With rhinoplasty, our team of cosmetic surgeons can alter the nose size, nose width, nose profile, nasal tip, nostrils, and nasal asymmetry or deviation.

It is a highly-individualized procedure, so it is important to communicate your desires well and to have realistic expectations for the outcome. We will work with you to evaluate the structure of your face and make a determination based on your facial structure, age and aesthetic goals.

Who is suitable for a cosmetic nose job?

You would be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if:

  • Your pubertal/facial growth is complete
  • You are physically and psychologically healthy
  • You have specific but realistic goals for the improvement of your appearance
How is the surgery performed?

Medications will be administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure. Our surgeon will recommend if you should go under local or general anaesthesia. Rhinoplasty is performed either using a closed procedure, where incisions are hidden inside the nose, or an open procedure, where an incision is made across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. Through these incisions, the soft tissues that cover the nose are gently raised, allowing access to reshape the structure of the nose. In some patient the nose implant is placed inside the pocket created to produce an aesthetically pleasing nose.

What happens post-surgery?

The procedure normally takes about two hours. Once it is finished, a metal or plastic splint is applied to protect the new shape of the nose. Soft splints or nasal packs can be placed inside the nose to provide support for the septum.

In recovery:

  • Headaches are common
  • The nose and face will be swollen and painful.
  • Swelling and bruising will increase for 2 or 3 days following surgery.
  • Minor bleeding from the nose is common during the first few days while tissues heal inside.

It is important to keep the head elevated and place cold packs on the area. Most of the swelling and bruising will subside within 2 weeks. Some minor swelling may linger for several months but will not be noticeable. You should see a change within 6 - 8 weeks following surgery, with continued refinement for 6 - 12 months.
