Tummy tuck Despite strict diets, exercise regimens and toning creams, it is not easy to get rid of saggy, excess skin and fat deposits to achieve a flat, toned stomach. Even individuals with otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop a tummy that protrudes, or is loose and sagging – caused by pregnancy, aging, big fluctuations in weight, genetic factors and prior surgery.
Let us help.
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a procedure used to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen, and tighten abdominal muscles. An improvement to the body contour is achieved, and there will be better definition of the muscles in the area.

Who is suitable for a tummy tuck?
Healthy individuals who feel their tummies are too flabby; those whose abdominal area has been stretched due to pregnancy, or those with sagging due to major weight loss; non-smokers; those with realistic expectations of what a tummy tuck can achieve.
How is a tummy tuck performed?
It is often performed under general anaesthesia, although it can be performed using local anaesthetic with a sedative. An incision is made from hip to hip just above the pubic area, the shape like a V with a flat bottom. Another incision is made to free the navel from the abdominal tissue. The skin is separated from the abdominal wall, exposing muscles which are then tightened. After the muscles have been repositioned and tightened, excess skin is stretched and removed. The remaining skin is redraped and then sutured in place.
What happens post-surgery?
Dressing and bandage may be applied to the incisions, and you may be wrapped in an elastic bandage or compression garment to ease swelling and support your abdomen. Swelling and soreness will occur for the first few days, which can be alleviated with pain medications prescribed by your doctor. Heavy activity is best avoided. A tummy tuck is a major surgical procedure, so you can expect a longer recovery period compared with other plastic surgeries. Full recovery takes 3 – 6 months, with further fading of scars after. If you feel any severe pain or other abnormal symptoms, call your doctor immediately.
