  Varicose &
spider veins

Varicose veins are blue, red or flesh coloured veins that often look swollen and twisted. They can be caused by weak or damaged valves in the veins.

Different types of varicose veins include venous lakes found on the face and neck, reticular or feeder veins across the thighs or back of legs, and abdominal/pelvic/vulvar varicose veins

Spider veins are similar, often red or blue, and can look like spiderwebs with their short, jagged appearance. They can be caused by the backup of blood due to hormone changes, exposure to the sun and injuries.

Many factors may predispose a person to varicose and spider veins, including age, hormonal changes, pregnancy, obesity, lack of movement and sun exposure. They may occur in men or women of any age but most frequently women in their childbearing years and older people.

How do the lasers work?

In the treatment of veins, a focused beam of light is used to heat the blood vessel. The heat generated causes a clotting of the blood which is then absorbed by the body during the natural healing process.

What is an endovenous laser treatment?

It is a minimally invasive varicose vein treatment. A thin fiber is inserted into the damaged vein via a very small skin nick. Laser light energy is delivered to the targeted tissue, which reacts with the light, causing the vein to close and seal shut. The veins that are closed are superficial veins that handle less than five percent of the body's blood flow. The blood is automatically routed to other, healthy veins.

How many sessions are required for the treatment of veins?

Depending on the size and extent of your varicose or spider veins, not more than 2 sessions are usually required.
